Each quarter Soroptimists are spotlighting a specific obstacle that women and girls face on their path to formal education and economic empowerment. We are sharing information about each obstacle, and club members are involved in a hands-on project addressing the issue. You can help raise awareness by sharing Soroptimist Oak Harbor social media posts and website articles that feature the hashtag

October Focus: Intimate Partner Violence
When women and girls are educated, they have the skills to command decent wages and the resources to escape unsafe relationships sooner. We help ensure women rebuilding their lives can pursue economic empowerment without facing additional barriers like the lack of professional clothing. During this month we focus on increasing access to education or economic empowerment for women or girls who have experienced intimate partner violence.

January Focus: Trafficking

Access to formal education can provide women with the tools to prevent trafficking and to command better wages after surviving trafficking. Ensuring that women and girls have the opportunity and ability to complete school and earn a livelihood plays a significant role in reducing vulnerability. In January, we focus on increasing access to education for women or girls who have experienced trafficking
March Focus: Single Parenting

Balancing work or school with childcare, navigating lower wages and combating social stigma—single mothers across our federation endure these struggles every day. Yet, they continue to persevere, fighting valiantly for a brighter future. Single mothers need our help. For March, we focus on increasing access to education for single mothers.
May Focus: Period Poverty

Many women and girls face difficulty accessing or affording essential period products. This widespread issue, known as period poverty, often leads to absenteeism from work and school, negatively impacting their future. Throughout the month of May Soroptimists are coming together to highlight this issue and take action on ways we can help.
