Soroptimist | Best for Women

Mammogram Program

This program assists women residing in the 98277 zip code who cannot afford a mammogram. Women are referred to the Diagnostic Imaging Department at WhidbeyHealth Medical Center by their primary care provider. Women meeting an established criteria receive a screening and/or diagnostic test. The billing is sent to Friends of WhidbeyHealth and paid through funds donated by Soroptimist International of Oak Harbor.

Heart of a Woman Program

The Soroptimist clubs in Oak Harbor, Coupeville and South Whidbey fund free Heartwise cholesterol and blood sugar screenings to women living on Whidbey Island and unable to pay for these services. To request your free Heart of a Woman screening, please call (360) 678-7656. No doctor referral is required.


Established in 2000 by LUNA, the makers of the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women, LUNAFEST connects women, their stories and their causes through film. This traveling film festival spotlights the work of a diverse array of talented female filmmakers with intelligent, funny and thought-provoking themes. 100 percent of net proceeds are donated to our community.

Bear Project

New and “gently used” stuffed animals are collected, cleaned and repaired if needed. Each animal receives a fresh ribbon and tag that says, “Hugs from Soroptimist International of Oak Harbor.” They are distributed to various organizations and given to children facing a stressful situation.

IF Project

An educational scholarship to assist formerly incarcerated adult women and girls in supporting their educational goals. The program focuses on barriers and additional costs of education, such as books and transportation.

Hoop House at Crescent Harbor Elementary

Money donated through the Bev Elveback Fund supports Crescent Harbor Elementary School’s new school-wide garden project that now includes a moveable greenhouse.

Christmas Home Tour

Tour 5 holiday decorated homes, sample homemade Christmas cookies and collect the recipes. All funds raised go to support Soroptimist programs such as the Dream Programs which ensure women and girls have access to education and training.
